It achieved what I wanted - a reboot of my interest in sewing. Last year I found it hard to get to my machine or to really <i>want </i>to be making anything.<br />
<br />
The little project that involved setting aside some time each day to make something simple without the usual constraints was fun. However, over the last week or so, I realised that other projects were rapidly forming in my mind. My <i>wanting to sew</i> was back! I also started to think about how I might like to put the blocks together, and decided that I wanted to sash them. A 6x8 grid seems like a nice proportion and will be a good sized lap quilt once I've added sashing. So at #48, I have called a halt to production.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifDmL7oxN8jdoGm-aGmiAVh_Xa5LLCTjRtPq5TLeymWCFSxw8BRaqr7DaR_wrrTBVXJgr6UB-CBtHdhd8pqCqEqfjpwn71zJb_5ni7o8NeANGSctv-f0Qq1rddZtvHNiPPxQ4gQa9sbyM/s1600/IMG_1384.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1332" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifDmL7oxN8jdoGm-aGmiAVh_Xa5LLCTjRtPq5TLeymWCFSxw8BRaqr7DaR_wrrTBVXJgr6UB-CBtHdhd8pqCqEqfjpwn71zJb_5ni7o8NeANGSctv-f0Qq1rddZtvHNiPPxQ4gQa9sbyM/s640/IMG_1384.jpg" width="532" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I found myself working across several days on a particular theme, making two, three or four variations of a shape I was enjoying.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjh0oUCxUXvutKjnea6zUyLpCubzl__C6uS7R5PfFep0pqbCpvPWb-M8szM8cDoMVEBGUbfmMJAVGVTQlWBovUjBs0LiIFbU01tZkNA0H8igCMC6kSaxMqtYYG-y1v0rMfkIC4T73AVlyY/s1600/IMG_1385.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1553" data-original-width="1600" height="620" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjh0oUCxUXvutKjnea6zUyLpCubzl__C6uS7R5PfFep0pqbCpvPWb-M8szM8cDoMVEBGUbfmMJAVGVTQlWBovUjBs0LiIFbU01tZkNA0H8igCMC6kSaxMqtYYG-y1v0rMfkIC4T73AVlyY/s640/IMG_1385.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
With other blocks, I had an idea in mind and made the block I planned (on the right below). At other times my quilt math ability was on holiday and I ended up with some interesting improvisation in order to make use of the mis-sized pieces. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipZe2H9aKZdefE59RdfnIQ5t0os-GEyL90he2b5HkyvDmFQoo9xjj_4FJPX3mwZFXaPLRVZe4mzI0rWolwz4er77ANUpQnXEfNZaIodcY9uyq_d595ZrdAkrU2P5BqOkhj_lzusHgv_Jc/s1600/IMG_1386.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1433" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipZe2H9aKZdefE59RdfnIQ5t0os-GEyL90he2b5HkyvDmFQoo9xjj_4FJPX3mwZFXaPLRVZe4mzI0rWolwz4er77ANUpQnXEfNZaIodcY9uyq_d595ZrdAkrU2P5BqOkhj_lzusHgv_Jc/s640/IMG_1386.jpg" width="572" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now to decide on a neutral solid for the sashing. </div>
<br />Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11965380130730880977noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5326119276545251831.post-63906301765905771622019-02-18T19:14:00.001+13:002019-02-18T19:14:13.466+13:00Tree makingI spent some time over the weekend making a test tree from the pattern <a href="http://bluenickelstudios.com/shop/">Painted Forest by Blue Nickel Studios</a>. Some of you might be familiar with the many lovely versions of this pattern that are on IG:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiKeJNjqNSWiQNkJlTcb0ACjZ-mx9KCR2Y_ySU2Mhyphenhyphend6EHDnj_fdblCpqP2jE01UnSv7VexrI5TwJiz-RCUt1CZO0wrrgRARlPM-eTP3_6Oe_sfnflj0CmmmkWbrmjQmNcPzR8yRzOx30/s1600/IMG_1330.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="936" data-original-width="736" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiKeJNjqNSWiQNkJlTcb0ACjZ-mx9KCR2Y_ySU2Mhyphenhyphend6EHDnj_fdblCpqP2jE01UnSv7VexrI5TwJiz-RCUt1CZO0wrrgRARlPM-eTP3_6Oe_sfnflj0CmmmkWbrmjQmNcPzR8yRzOx30/s640/IMG_1330.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
I have in mind a vague idea of a wall hanging that I want to make which only needs one of these trees in it. I couldn't quite visualise the dimensions of it, so used a bunch of scraps to make this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrhPy9vV0ldBNR_qJblbHvDOglXgw3WSOxk_jqxOqGxrqlDcognoiwWoOM0AZYC_CiyzG4vZmB-dKQ-p23t__z67n_kO5J6VkQKJ7PAeQrki9J9E-czRlMOkz5D4GwLvv9ezKzlfZYXQY/s1600/IMG_1329.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrhPy9vV0ldBNR_qJblbHvDOglXgw3WSOxk_jqxOqGxrqlDcognoiwWoOM0AZYC_CiyzG4vZmB-dKQ-p23t__z67n_kO5J6VkQKJ7PAeQrki9J9E-czRlMOkz5D4GwLvv9ezKzlfZYXQY/s640/IMG_1329.HEIC" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This tree is fourth from the left in the top row of the pattern. Although I was just using scraps from my scrap bin, not worrying too much about the overall effect, I can see a few things I would prefer to do differently next time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>The branches and stems are probably best in a solid fabric, or something that reads as nearly solid, they get a bit lost in my version.</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>A smaller scale print probably works best for the 'leaves'. In the pattern and the versions I have seen, the forest idea is clear because there are so many trees included, but I think I will go for a bit more contrast between tree and background. </li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So overall, a worthwhile experiment I think.</div>

Yikes!<br />
<br />
It has been sitting in a cupboard, all folded up, in a quilt sandwich since sometime in 2013. I think what happened is that I started quilting it in straight lines with some variegated thread, and wasn't that thrilled with either the thread, or my not-so-straight lines.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvUdXjlQRQ6FG1btom74elhcHsDy0xKuIddFxwfVf2IIiDIPlmKQHsvyBX1q-3b67tTVbv63shZyxhaw1MJFI40c188JfnCv2LUFxdcq4OMksde5eQjihHh6-cDvEL7PyvZOazP3DJwhs/s1600/IMG_1228.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1395" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvUdXjlQRQ6FG1btom74elhcHsDy0xKuIddFxwfVf2IIiDIPlmKQHsvyBX1q-3b67tTVbv63shZyxhaw1MJFI40c188JfnCv2LUFxdcq4OMksde5eQjihHh6-cDvEL7PyvZOazP3DJwhs/s640/IMG_1228.jpg" width="558" /></a></div>
<br />
Fast-forward a couple of years (we won't count exactly how many) and I am way less of a perfectionist. Now, I am satisfied with just getting things finished.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZDqm6bt6KfthSg1vAM_6Bhnh2cBTHKp9m5aeZhRN-7I06jQ5joSETn0GxL4Ax55tlcju5uvNS0XtzxLpTUIbCNAXUUaIZIkmYo7hMPfgHYDEHNv_k5niQcrfC9FOUwb6ILBQPGM0xTRE/s1600/IMG_1229.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZDqm6bt6KfthSg1vAM_6Bhnh2cBTHKp9m5aeZhRN-7I06jQ5joSETn0GxL4Ax55tlcju5uvNS0XtzxLpTUIbCNAXUUaIZIkmYo7hMPfgHYDEHNv_k5niQcrfC9FOUwb6ILBQPGM0xTRE/s640/IMG_1229.HEIC" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm actually really pleased with how it looks. It's been a while since I worked with solids and I like the effectiveness of the simple piecing. I used Oakshott shot cottons - I'm pretty sure I bought a bundle of F8s. The Anna Maria Horner fabric on the back is perfect, and so too is the much more recent Carolyn Friedlander <i>Doe</i> fabric I used for the binding.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPgsArkC6uBMhgcOg6ksv-wvx2yWNWkV0AFy3TZmjOSbIDqXrQnwob_NliJxDSaXfwwNwypM5dQRH3c7zSW_rYilrlzXB_0q0zgY46OySMtlHZmCQ6mr0bl3lRXOv1FJAf_jJ3CQAAy9M/s1600/IMG_1234.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPgsArkC6uBMhgcOg6ksv-wvx2yWNWkV0AFy3TZmjOSbIDqXrQnwob_NliJxDSaXfwwNwypM5dQRH3c7zSW_rYilrlzXB_0q0zgY46OySMtlHZmCQ6mr0bl3lRXOv1FJAf_jJ3CQAAy9M/s640/IMG_1234.HEIC" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
The variegated thread is really silky, so my machine loved it. It gives quite a subtle effect - you really have to be looking to notice it. Goodness, why did it take me so long to figure all that out?Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11965380130730880977noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5326119276545251831.post-68865298640204328642019-01-13T12:59:00.002+13:002019-01-13T12:59:14.377+13:00100 day project {update}I'll probably only post a few updates about my 100-day project along the way, but thought 16 seemed like a nice even number for an initial photo. I've had to get a few days ahead because I'm away for work this week.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMjsmNKALABB8wSHIzPzT9lY2oTN5SN08EPkJjncI171VceQiyCxfEvondb1X-XX3qb0oEbAVzZqE5Yiy5SghmF__q5fibiejMy1NkzgJlhBg1oLAbxNQhS1Nk_dpfABgvnVnWTkI9LpU/s1600/fullsizeoutput_333.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1540" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMjsmNKALABB8wSHIzPzT9lY2oTN5SN08EPkJjncI171VceQiyCxfEvondb1X-XX3qb0oEbAVzZqE5Yiy5SghmF__q5fibiejMy1NkzgJlhBg1oLAbxNQhS1Nk_dpfABgvnVnWTkI9LpU/s640/fullsizeoutput_333.jpeg" width="614" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've really enjoyed the process so far. The blocks are usually quick to make - I like the way I can make something simple or something that takes a little longer depending on how I feel. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sometimes I feel like making something a bit fiddly and precise:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0483jVbdXyfIzBsPt26sAy2-V7wmr7YM2UcGA51vLOHPHAOmtQ3ea6KSQQdosSMtPaTBsItsMJRkTxMCK3xHK3iY02HQznQ0Lh6zZjJJOwL8O2EOR1dzCLw7ZsbCC447XgBeeB88vkHM/s1600/fullsizeoutput_331.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1521" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0483jVbdXyfIzBsPt26sAy2-V7wmr7YM2UcGA51vLOHPHAOmtQ3ea6KSQQdosSMtPaTBsItsMJRkTxMCK3xHK3iY02HQznQ0Lh6zZjJJOwL8O2EOR1dzCLw7ZsbCC447XgBeeB88vkHM/s400/fullsizeoutput_331.jpeg" width="380" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Other times I improvise, cutting shapes or scraps and seeing where I end up:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0vw5T7FVMSoZQP53rW3U_EGqTTQRsYBBI84WBjNQbLxjhxlKTVxZoYfIxI8iVTBCASM2exA1yYa1gOsjzKQ02MkaNril4aCOfHAjWynYCJsqDV8GrwlKzkeyZVFlQM8g15jGg61WSHco/s1600/fullsizeoutput_332.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1569" data-original-width="1600" height="391" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0vw5T7FVMSoZQP53rW3U_EGqTTQRsYBBI84WBjNQbLxjhxlKTVxZoYfIxI8iVTBCASM2exA1yYa1gOsjzKQ02MkaNril4aCOfHAjWynYCJsqDV8GrwlKzkeyZVFlQM8g15jGg61WSHco/s400/fullsizeoutput_332.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was working on another quilt at the same time this week so I used a couple of blocks that were in that quilt as a reminder of the other project:</div>

I see it is just a little over two years since I last posted anything here, that's Instagram for you. I have decided that 2019 will see a return to the blog for me. I miss having a record of my thinking as I make.<br />
<br />
I thought I would start the new year with a small 100 Days project. I put together a pile of jewel-bright fabrics and plan to make a 4.5" block a day for the next 100 days. The rules are very few. No unpicking. No deciding something is ugly and putting it in the bin. No fussing about colour placement. Any block goes; improv, fiddly, straight lines, or curves.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixjNea7hzDaEMqGrkFEwGAtQweopi9PfJDJ-eKbMGFsLf4yzVWVkLDJQZjxfrYotSyPQGv9yaDG_b-d2wOlN1BiuRGc_Q-nOiJwFtD6QnfLNovWPWZqkdMuK4TzDriibqMp9g1b8nrzas/s1600/IMG_0864.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixjNea7hzDaEMqGrkFEwGAtQweopi9PfJDJ-eKbMGFsLf4yzVWVkLDJQZjxfrYotSyPQGv9yaDG_b-d2wOlN1BiuRGc_Q-nOiJwFtD6QnfLNovWPWZqkdMuK4TzDriibqMp9g1b8nrzas/s400/IMG_0864.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I've cut a pile of fabric for small borders as well so that busier days ahead are accounted for. I'm using an Alison Glass Sun Print for the borders - it has tiny birds and insects on it which you can see if you look carefully. It's a really nice neutral which I have used in a few projects now.<br />
<br />
Day One:<br />

I'm really pleased with the final product. The colours are quiet but not washed out and the simple quilting gives it a soft snuggly texture. It fits perfectly on my bed, just in time for those hot summer nights when you just want something light over your sheets.<br />

I'm really pleased to have my second version complete and ready for quilting. Without further ado, here she is:<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOqlRF14mOkj1b3o94BWnf-mXofEtG1HTyGUbgAk63s8JFfUAfFUn1FZudiLJXFpHAz4eRcKGws9dkbU6wDWvWx2Zg2jd5z59xFFkrge7uwA5jekganVFV3aX8W9cusJGXl-Me54OQxfA/s1600/Gypsy+Mistress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="508" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOqlRF14mOkj1b3o94BWnf-mXofEtG1HTyGUbgAk63s8JFfUAfFUn1FZudiLJXFpHAz4eRcKGws9dkbU6wDWvWx2Zg2jd5z59xFFkrge7uwA5jekganVFV3aX8W9cusJGXl-Me54OQxfA/s640/Gypsy+Mistress.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And if any of you are curious about what Gyspy Wife#1 looked like after quilting, here she is:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0zS5Ov8gbhmwEPFOZTYHsyTeGwQ7g_vxR70mD4QRVxTfCSlNSu5I55YQLfe3zW66g4xOnG1CoO-ITJ8jwEFj5_y97foxZcDONvsgjzwiQInaLC6dyk5N-DIm5lv5D5SiVTTNCenhot8g/s1600/Gypsy+Wife+%25231.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0zS5Ov8gbhmwEPFOZTYHsyTeGwQ7g_vxR70mD4QRVxTfCSlNSu5I55YQLfe3zW66g4xOnG1CoO-ITJ8jwEFj5_y97foxZcDONvsgjzwiQInaLC6dyk5N-DIm5lv5D5SiVTTNCenhot8g/s640/Gypsy+Wife+%25231.jpg" width="560" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have a box of scrap fabric from the version I have just finished, so I have plans to make another Jen Kingwell pattern 'Bonnie Lass' from her book <i>Quilt Lovely. </i>I'm thinking I might have to call the new quilt 'Gypsy child' :-)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thanks to those of you who have stitched along with me and left encouraging comments. Thanks also to the awesome <a href="http://hydeeannsews.blogspot.co.nz/p/gypsy-wife-2016.html">Hydeeann</a> who did all the quilty maths and created the very helpful spreadsheets to supplement the pattern. High fives all round!</div>

<br />
I'm pretty excited that I have finally caught up with the QAL, sections 8 and 9 are duly complete and I am ready to start the last part.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPXdfjb7jo8o-NnbPPTN3hmzTYVbVy4pdDZ3fMeyhwrNU0T7e1l_KQBlbokmeM4Kglua_hYhapxZhqDaK2N7X355T7ixVk4qzfbZ8uf9XwxexvF8bw_jgbm9J-5IETCeIGJ5ncqR-5wvU/s1600/Gypsy+Wife+Sections+8%25269.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPXdfjb7jo8o-NnbPPTN3hmzTYVbVy4pdDZ3fMeyhwrNU0T7e1l_KQBlbokmeM4Kglua_hYhapxZhqDaK2N7X355T7ixVk4qzfbZ8uf9XwxexvF8bw_jgbm9J-5IETCeIGJ5ncqR-5wvU/s640/Gypsy+Wife+Sections+8%25269.jpg" width="456" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I went a little off-piste with these sections as I needed to incorporate some errors (that big block centre right has two borders instead of one, and I have two heart blocks) but I'm happy with it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I hope anyone who is following along is similarly happy with their progress, the end is in sight!</div>

How did you get on with section 8? I've just got the star block to do and then I can move on to section 9. My aim this month is to get fully caught up with my own quilt along!<br />
<br />
I was really pleased to finally finish section 6 and get a good large section of the quilt put together.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBZYgiuLRODF8OSkHhezICiwGqsr1RXuKC4ozRodvx_dz2oFBnJO5ZGvZUe08j-RxTBXwN5tU28PLZ8EYdL7OmJ9RgHyAn4s8C2TmYGZZKlUIVliV6CL5DonPpj6TyJinIL6vv7Sf09-k/s1600/Gypsy+Wife+half+completed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBZYgiuLRODF8OSkHhezICiwGqsr1RXuKC4ozRodvx_dz2oFBnJO5ZGvZUe08j-RxTBXwN5tU28PLZ8EYdL7OmJ9RgHyAn4s8C2TmYGZZKlUIVliV6CL5DonPpj6TyJinIL6vv7Sf09-k/s640/Gypsy+Wife+half+completed.jpg" width="536" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've now got a little collection of 'oopsies' on my design wall. I.e blocks that have needed a bit of adapting because I read the pattern incorrectly and made them the wrong size, or out-takes from earlier sections. I stitched the heart block without paying attention to the rest of the quilt and realised that I would have two blocks right next to each other featuring that berry coloured AMH fabric, so I had to make another. I'm not going to waste the original though, I will find a home for it in the quilt somewhere...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUFvyqjREkxpAafZN6KW4pFj7G2JPAR3VkgTy9zuJhlFHz2CDd7e1gwUk4x9MVDKowKQ0KpkRz8t6uLVD0lYHycDSF6wUXsTCvtdGZ8d00bfqYmNPDa7R4UJ4Ht_uAmQZDZYMoYrb484s/s1600/Gypsy+Wife+section+8+blocks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUFvyqjREkxpAafZN6KW4pFj7G2JPAR3VkgTy9zuJhlFHz2CDd7e1gwUk4x9MVDKowKQ0KpkRz8t6uLVD0lYHycDSF6wUXsTCvtdGZ8d00bfqYmNPDa7R4UJ4Ht_uAmQZDZYMoYrb484s/s640/Gypsy+Wife+section+8+blocks.jpg" width="508" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To keep myself sane I've been pottering away on a completely different project in the background. I have started making EPP blocks using Lucy Kingwell's pattern <i>Smitten</i>. I am enjoying the pace and being able to pick up some quiet hand stitching whenever times allows it.</div>

How are you getting on with your Gypsy Wife??<br />
I have finished section 7 but I still have quite a bit to do on section 6 so I am relieved to see that section 8 is quite a small section!<br />
<br />
Three big blocks, a square in square and some strips - entirely doable! I started with From the Heart. Last time I made this block I felt the shape got lost a little bit because of my fabric choices, so this time I have kept it quite simple and gone for high contrast light and dark.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo18z-O1FvVXsqba68y9VFWM3lTRUwR26gF0botedL3UDgmxeVvGjuuuvW9EuhLHfPv4IE3INGyUFXeCfY-Q9wyMMGuTWQg3n598ly832mY3tkkHwsoXKVXAMkQ7sQUdO1Db3sv65Iphw/s1600/From++the+heart.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="636" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo18z-O1FvVXsqba68y9VFWM3lTRUwR26gF0botedL3UDgmxeVvGjuuuvW9EuhLHfPv4IE3INGyUFXeCfY-Q9wyMMGuTWQg3n598ly832mY3tkkHwsoXKVXAMkQ7sQUdO1Db3sv65Iphw/s640/From++the+heart.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you have just discovered this quilt along - welcome! Don't worry if you are ahead or behind, its a go-at-your-own-pace kind of affair. Check out <a href="http://hydeeannsews.blogspot.co.nz/p/gypsy-wife-2016.html">Hydeeann's blog</a> for lots of tips and her really useful spreadsheet which will help you keep on top of all those strips and pieces!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Happy sewing everyone. I hope that I can report that I have finished section 6 next month (fingers crossed!)</div>
<br />Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11965380130730880977noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5326119276545251831.post-67150007272391943392016-07-16T17:14:00.000+12:002016-07-16T17:14:53.402+12:00Gypsy Wife {Section 7 construction}Hi everyone, welcome to section 7 of Gypsy Wife!<div>
<br /><div>
I have been tied up with life lately, but I have finally found some sewing time. I hope everyone else is sewing along happily. In the interests of full disclosure, I haven't actually done section 6 yet but as this is a quilt-along where you go at your own pace, I consider myself to be leading by example and not keeping up with my own schedule!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Section 7 isn't very big but it does require a bit of engineering to get the parts put together. If you pay attention to the partial seams, it will all work out I promise. I took some photos along the way in case it is helpful to see the process more literally.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'm just going to show you the parts in the middle with the partial seams, starting where my finger is on the pattern. The first three photos show you the order that I constructed this part. I started with the partial seam below the pinwheel block. I had already completed the part below the 3" square in square (see photo 2).</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfpfGH3IkaZBohtenNN6kK4e3-QwCHqEVgcNn8Gwiu7Wk-WV3WvVbrMVK3k7YKCnltblcPcdgK2lNZrhvApgCvBNL8aFJxHEHyfR5yDWKgFmgoTErmGuREv5zbGuYhOrEWqGwQyAX_Rsc/s1600/IMG_0819.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfpfGH3IkaZBohtenNN6kK4e3-QwCHqEVgcNn8Gwiu7Wk-WV3WvVbrMVK3k7YKCnltblcPcdgK2lNZrhvApgCvBNL8aFJxHEHyfR5yDWKgFmgoTErmGuREv5zbGuYhOrEWqGwQyAX_Rsc/s640/IMG_0819.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQtxpscZhHdXGdBBYlizqMICkO1rj53v7GwawqaOUeukc56hvo4pm27tMhpqLycve4DxFdPrDkA_EzKRsJHU3oqo74W4enNOPDHEUK3jjBzse7P2ySriPuClVznKuE-DuDDRNxnUv86j0/s1600/IMG_0821.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQtxpscZhHdXGdBBYlizqMICkO1rj53v7GwawqaOUeukc56hvo4pm27tMhpqLycve4DxFdPrDkA_EzKRsJHU3oqo74W4enNOPDHEUK3jjBzse7P2ySriPuClVznKuE-DuDDRNxnUv86j0/s640/IMG_0821.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Then I did the partial seam above the pinwheel block.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEile9S0AF2-ZTNcouvL8_bpjMbhoOTMwfCwYhyO2q7V6D8C27RJ6ZoFIyD7qg5e_e8Epaqp95p5zI4JtyTQILsvdAZBhRSyx7opGyM3iZfGixYRl7nF9Su_23lrfFLy7hLfRvlcPHISwiM/s1600/IMG_0822.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEile9S0AF2-ZTNcouvL8_bpjMbhoOTMwfCwYhyO2q7V6D8C27RJ6ZoFIyD7qg5e_e8Epaqp95p5zI4JtyTQILsvdAZBhRSyx7opGyM3iZfGixYRl7nF9Su_23lrfFLy7hLfRvlcPHISwiM/s640/IMG_0822.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When I went to attach the section to the left, I decided to do two partial seams. I have put my ruler across the fabric to show you approximately where. I did one where it was supposed to be (just to the right of the dark coloured strips on the pattern) and I did one on that far left strip as well, sewing down from the top and stopping where my ruler is.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This meant that I could put that top block in (the 4" square in square with courthouse) then connect it to the piece on the right and everything lined up neatly.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_NL__w0CgFTpnAg6hD2dTMmDxJEy-ydKA8rv4kltec4jRL-oQUecPKdJF_3VyFUmEkVpIxLHMgKfYxNFHfGWOTSVQIdC6AFu7JATnlSW8MqIyLyxbN1eBndDcQxqIykAGpc3Jpq_7O78/s1600/IMG_0825.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_NL__w0CgFTpnAg6hD2dTMmDxJEy-ydKA8rv4kltec4jRL-oQUecPKdJF_3VyFUmEkVpIxLHMgKfYxNFHfGWOTSVQIdC6AFu7JATnlSW8MqIyLyxbN1eBndDcQxqIykAGpc3Jpq_7O78/s640/IMG_0825.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then it was just a case of putting the 4" square in square in, then finishing those partial seams on the far left and right.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then you can return to the top of this section, sew the 7" bordered square in square across the top, then finish that partial seam too. I forgot to take a photo of that step, but we're looking at the top of this photo now.</div>

</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
It's a little after June 1st but never mind! Time to box on with section 6 (or what I like to call in my head The Behemoth).<br />
<br />
There are the grand total of 21 blocks in this section, not to mention a pretty good number of strips too. If you have not already downloaded the pdf that Hydeeann created with all the blocks and block sizes (both finished and unfinished) you might want to <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4J5tXkZ4Aksc2k3RWlwc0xNMmM/view">pop over</a> and do that now!<br />
<br />
Here is my previous Gypsy Wife, you can see section 6 on the lower left side and section 7 on the lower right side.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjD7nwYSh3q_-k-NiKCbTZFfQBh2L1p-oFHPXUY97p5vGfKMKiesbWmALAVAm9ftwqXvFrGazPpeFccvCJB4c-JDN6ioqXOaXbONtUMkHlGkByOIGfXDl-_mvUWg213vH3tOBSIskoN-ws/s1600/Gypsy+Wife+Progress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjD7nwYSh3q_-k-NiKCbTZFfQBh2L1p-oFHPXUY97p5vGfKMKiesbWmALAVAm9ftwqXvFrGazPpeFccvCJB4c-JDN6ioqXOaXbONtUMkHlGkByOIGfXDl-_mvUWg213vH3tOBSIskoN-ws/s640/Gypsy+Wife+Progress.jpg" width="412" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As far as the new version goes, I haven't finished section 5 yet. It still looks like this - a few holes to fill :-( </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhB2BkXEPtWN15Szzf2W3HKUCvHeg-JF4wx7I-mDtvEYd60-o_ScMNQ8WaYI-9-LaYZ1EtwqORHTzVzHKsLbaNusQZrwEUA7HfXAGgRmI2gOisZnARgDRpokE0C-SdfGKAxc2rx5yirILs/s1600/Gypsy+wife+section+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhB2BkXEPtWN15Szzf2W3HKUCvHeg-JF4wx7I-mDtvEYd60-o_ScMNQ8WaYI-9-LaYZ1EtwqORHTzVzHKsLbaNusQZrwEUA7HfXAGgRmI2gOisZnARgDRpokE0C-SdfGKAxc2rx5yirILs/s400/Gypsy+wife+section+5.jpg" width="298" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Never mind, its a long weekend so hopefully I can catch up and get a few section 6 blocks ticked off the list.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11965380130730880977noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5326119276545251831.post-14571668441431469792016-05-01T18:24:00.001+12:002016-05-01T18:24:16.581+12:00Gypsy Wife Crazy Anne block {the one I'm not sure about}<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><b>May 1st already! Can you believe it?</b></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That means it is time to start a new section of Gypsy Wife. Today I'm going to show you how I made Crazy Anne, one of the blocks in this month's section (section five). Only I'm not too sure if I made the centre section correctly, so follow my lead at your own risk!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I began by making the centre rectangles (and this is the part I'm not sure about). I felt like I should off-set the two pieces at each end by quarter of an inch so that when I pressed the pieces open the diagonal went corner to corner exactly (see both pictures). When you see the picture of the finished block, you will be able to see why I am not sure if this is correct. The rectangle should measure 4.5" by 2.5" at this stage.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDRK_oOCzH2vFQpbLR_nmMRYnBpqbnlub4yBkWRpCG-R2sDW36qW0_8YLlohjJyZWaqNxIqMhUdendS8mBL8mcPc89W2NeVtN-rfmWfP4UA-6bn7R-5oU7O-biiE1n6EIHDpyo3ctBkQE/s1600/Crazy+Anne+%25231.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="440" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDRK_oOCzH2vFQpbLR_nmMRYnBpqbnlub4yBkWRpCG-R2sDW36qW0_8YLlohjJyZWaqNxIqMhUdendS8mBL8mcPc89W2NeVtN-rfmWfP4UA-6bn7R-5oU7O-biiE1n6EIHDpyo3ctBkQE/s640/Crazy+Anne+%25231.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVn2rjECi9Myw0x0R6VqdI7bzkXHanNewn_SHBVZPnC2MO2pxAc3Tv_je8GhOJs38xisJq1FalR3czZ34qT_zZrd8wG3JiBD-9m4KLvLNAa_8dZk8zB_jabAQQp0qIkikYjbwkBLedEjg/s1600/Crazy+Anne+%25232.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="382" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVn2rjECi9Myw0x0R6VqdI7bzkXHanNewn_SHBVZPnC2MO2pxAc3Tv_je8GhOJs38xisJq1FalR3czZ34qT_zZrd8wG3JiBD-9m4KLvLNAa_8dZk8zB_jabAQQp0qIkikYjbwkBLedEjg/s640/Crazy+Anne+%25232.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then I laid all my pieces out to check that I was happy with the fabric placement and so that I could put the pieces together without muddling them all up.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh41n0erv3qnsijqiSjrifyvTgxaN0KUEMcbQsHbPRAc3RiwAcwqWt7v-YyJW0hOPzsGojShZvnHwEwNOVlnSD_Hc0XYNGNwsJ2rVtB0iUD41cahQrx1nRS3wxRmOHyq1KenBRK-HkABF8/s1600/Crazy+Anne+%25233.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh41n0erv3qnsijqiSjrifyvTgxaN0KUEMcbQsHbPRAc3RiwAcwqWt7v-YyJW0hOPzsGojShZvnHwEwNOVlnSD_Hc0XYNGNwsJ2rVtB0iUD41cahQrx1nRS3wxRmOHyq1KenBRK-HkABF8/s640/Crazy+Anne+%25233.jpg" width="598" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I stitched the centre three pieces together, then I made the corner units. These are fairly straightforward, just follow the instructions in the pattern. Each corner block should measure 4.5" square at this stage.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyA-lqPZwtVjZI2P7UbyeXOa8TGZ2xCBVRK-pDwBvLBZyGo_6-sBpkg49kwqpwQzeP2OPdIm9MqO4sSBwC8gYouf8-gktDXEK04QPz_0MGQZBs2FPhhwA_G45HuzuMfycehb30_Te7evo/s1600/Crazy+Anne+%25235.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyA-lqPZwtVjZI2P7UbyeXOa8TGZ2xCBVRK-pDwBvLBZyGo_6-sBpkg49kwqpwQzeP2OPdIm9MqO4sSBwC8gYouf8-gktDXEK04QPz_0MGQZBs2FPhhwA_G45HuzuMfycehb30_Te7evo/s640/Crazy+Anne+%25235.jpg" width="478" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sew the top and bottom row together, being careful not to accidentally rotate any of the blocks as you move them to your machine, then stitch the three rows together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp46Vis5H0XdD5lGH98FF1jEssNi9tKoFCaoMJv-oGXk7H7Evic3YyOuGqk6teDIYOKW6-fXvdMRv2R9r2yGM1b2B99J3c8042Akz4M2bUbuxhlWs1iWn4Mvdi_htDrxwUfIULh5fO-9A/s1600/Crazy+Anne+%25236.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp46Vis5H0XdD5lGH98FF1jEssNi9tKoFCaoMJv-oGXk7H7Evic3YyOuGqk6teDIYOKW6-fXvdMRv2R9r2yGM1b2B99J3c8042Akz4M2bUbuxhlWs1iWn4Mvdi_htDrxwUfIULh5fO-9A/s640/Crazy+Anne+%25236.jpg" width="628" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You will be able to see in this picture that I didn't get sharp points in the centre where the star point meets the centre square. Maybe you are supposed to, maybe not? I'm not fussed, the great thing about Gypsy Wife is that it is such an explosion of colour and blocks that a few dodgy points go largely un-noticed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

The diagram on p.34 of the pattern is kind of helpful but does require a bit of imagination!<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
You can go ahead and sew section 3 onto your completed sections 1&2, and you can also attach section 4, but you need to leave it partially undone. Yes, it's another <b>partial seam</b>, but they're nothing to be afraid of remember :-)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgphb3pfCxHUZ3FEHQ6jhhRfbYjV88LxTh60ilbxcfBVbApLO1PXLR5KJKJgqRzitPjkRCDrmnBiOzVok7cPaOxp697QsQowMwQyGq353RzC4UA8sXwsFO-K4d8Fyqtmt4VrnB3jGjAXE0/s1600/GW+sections+3%25264_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgphb3pfCxHUZ3FEHQ6jhhRfbYjV88LxTh60ilbxcfBVbApLO1PXLR5KJKJgqRzitPjkRCDrmnBiOzVok7cPaOxp697QsQowMwQyGq353RzC4UA8sXwsFO-K4d8Fyqtmt4VrnB3jGjAXE0/s640/GW+sections+3%25264_1.jpg" width="478" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is a picture of my GW with sections 1,2 and 3 sewn together with section 4 lying in place at the bottom. We need to attach section 4 so that next month we can attach section 5 (simple seam), then later section 6 (simple seam), then finally section 7. Section 7 will be attached to sections 4&6, then across the bottom of section 2 (hence needing our partial seam). If that all seems confusing, don't worry, I'll post plenty of photos along the way.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For now, we're going to sew section four onto the bottom of the block that consists of sections 1,2 and 3. As far as I can tell, the HST block should overlap that square in square block you can see by about a 1/4". We're not going to sew all the way to the end though, just to that first orange pin. </div>

So there it is, attached most of the way across, with a couple of inches of open seam at the end, so we can attach the other parts later. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you are making speedy progress with this section (and maybe even section 5), then make a start on section 6. It has a lot of blocks in it so will keep you well occupied :-)</div>

Time to start a new section of Gypsy Wife!<br />
I have changed my mind about the fabrics in section one and two a couple of times, and I'm finally happy with how it is looking.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRxviKRwm_KGWZIgixaDhda1ErmEkUfcX6d1J8HRX3LxQ1fgT7aTSfv6ERDmrcECFURH9OyRPnMoUEy5hq6bW4QNyoak6W7qbppJdMbW7OvAvtZ4RDdhHhQ5fG3l4R9w5U9PZewob_3VY/s1600/Gypsy+Wife+section+1%25262.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRxviKRwm_KGWZIgixaDhda1ErmEkUfcX6d1J8HRX3LxQ1fgT7aTSfv6ERDmrcECFURH9OyRPnMoUEy5hq6bW4QNyoak6W7qbppJdMbW7OvAvtZ4RDdhHhQ5fG3l4R9w5U9PZewob_3VY/s640/Gypsy+Wife+section+1%25262.jpg" width="462" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
Sections 3 and 4 are pretty straightforward. <a href="http://hydeeannsews.blogspot.co.nz/2016/03/gypsy-child-of-hst-block_16.html">Hydeeann</a> has posted some thoughts about working with HSTs, and I'm going to share a couple of tips today about the Colour Wheel block.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
There is nothing technically difficult about this block, the trick is to keep an eye on fabric placement - it is so easy to rotate the pieces when you move them to the machine.<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
I sewed the large and small triangles together as per the instructions, then laid the pieces out where I wanted them. You can see from the picture below it is easy to get the layout wrong but also easy to correct.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigCaye-oteLXBfSK7-5iLcPPfbmf310g3_6NuskdnJOLtIJV4K4CYlAYsqgTT8QXUmFJeMBEJzaIDQ2QBdbbqnTVC-xem9FkpPtH6YWxf7g2JWDpGOWfnqNxGWdbPxmrZJdIBcMW0NR3k/s1600/Colour+Wheel%25231.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigCaye-oteLXBfSK7-5iLcPPfbmf310g3_6NuskdnJOLtIJV4K4CYlAYsqgTT8QXUmFJeMBEJzaIDQ2QBdbbqnTVC-xem9FkpPtH6YWxf7g2JWDpGOWfnqNxGWdbPxmrZJdIBcMW0NR3k/s640/Colour+Wheel%25231.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0Hv3LiSKQNbFZWnlSl1HtSGFYZhnFhtRFoUh2Oko8ThCTzBnqGnmPyIGAs1lYFo2PpI0CEWggHEfuYj2bXdaShRqwe0ZOY3_fFm-pI-JRY4A0D11JmmF63IXBA4o_Oa_aECojm9NB-Jg/s1600/Colour+Wheel%25232.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0Hv3LiSKQNbFZWnlSl1HtSGFYZhnFhtRFoUh2Oko8ThCTzBnqGnmPyIGAs1lYFo2PpI0CEWggHEfuYj2bXdaShRqwe0ZOY3_fFm-pI-JRY4A0D11JmmF63IXBA4o_Oa_aECojm9NB-Jg/s640/Colour+Wheel%25232.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then I sewed the small triangle pieces to the large triangle pieces.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4SFIdK7N4tUqHa5vtPR_SUL7usElatNb7M_BMV5NtIKwM2WqDQkKz4g2WkBKa0whsJJfyN-_q2z45z7wRolRVkOUhPf1qagTkx_oXA6i_C7Fws4XAbr7qzRHir5RjKBylb9FieKq3_aU/s1600/Colour+Wheel%25233.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4SFIdK7N4tUqHa5vtPR_SUL7usElatNb7M_BMV5NtIKwM2WqDQkKz4g2WkBKa0whsJJfyN-_q2z45z7wRolRVkOUhPf1qagTkx_oXA6i_C7Fws4XAbr7qzRHir5RjKBylb9FieKq3_aU/s640/Colour+Wheel%25233.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At this point it becomes a simple nine-patch. Up until this point, I pressed the seams open on the back. When I joined the rows I pressed to the side so the seams would nest together. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's a pretty block - I'm looking forward to seeing the different versions appear on IG!</div>

I saw some lovely versions of Smitten by Lucy Carson Kingwell on IG and I decided that this could be the project to satisfy that itch.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3RZ9yqFg-vjsLP1y6r9w4LO1I5YSBMdC6BXmNCDC3ZsHg6f7whMU5bAhPAZMYib64c4x79062nklZqDM4Vrjoi-qqdzj4VpkaQOjdN7Ftlw02qFgCBlosxBLUuxK4GevvMqjAq-PMVp0/s1600/Smitten.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3RZ9yqFg-vjsLP1y6r9w4LO1I5YSBMdC6BXmNCDC3ZsHg6f7whMU5bAhPAZMYib64c4x79062nklZqDM4Vrjoi-qqdzj4VpkaQOjdN7Ftlw02qFgCBlosxBLUuxK4GevvMqjAq-PMVp0/s640/Smitten.jpg" width="540" /></a></div>
<br />
On Friday I diligently recycled some card stock at work and photocopied some sets of the templates (the pattern is for hand piecing but I wanted to EPP). After cutting out enough pieces for one block, I hastened to order the rest online. Careful cutting out with scissors is evidently not my thing :-)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcHyjB1-rUQSkpLmk21L4Luxz0pQM3smlPDOPWOE0y99L3VTVCk8uPuID_-qTL0eJ2qu0TRA08SwQasY28C0K2wtd9tTqlm5cYpdYjbxUtSQegnfPMfO1LcU6UkRjWVg9CeRkK-TMWlSY/s1600/Large+hexagon.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcHyjB1-rUQSkpLmk21L4Luxz0pQM3smlPDOPWOE0y99L3VTVCk8uPuID_-qTL0eJ2qu0TRA08SwQasY28C0K2wtd9tTqlm5cYpdYjbxUtSQegnfPMfO1LcU6UkRjWVg9CeRkK-TMWlSY/s640/Large+hexagon.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The first block took ages and I think if there was a prize for the most awkward way to put it together, I would have won a huge trophy. Hopefully I can remember some of the things I discovered along the way when I get to the next one.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKxI9OHDLenoy2XpNlqZ7ZqT01T7Pl1VJMe5YMZDT2CwgYCbkzg3AG-dIJF99SeetxOAMWOtBYDuZPNfBYem6HxDfZ2Z6LC67WpBdm02mfQI1RMcyBj0BiUKXohlSa7DijP_aTsI-agU8/s1600/WIP+Smitten.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKxI9OHDLenoy2XpNlqZ7ZqT01T7Pl1VJMe5YMZDT2CwgYCbkzg3AG-dIJF99SeetxOAMWOtBYDuZPNfBYem6HxDfZ2Z6LC67WpBdm02mfQI1RMcyBj0BiUKXohlSa7DijP_aTsI-agU8/s640/WIP+Smitten.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
I'm using a bundle of Cotton and Steel Lucky Strikes for this project. I wanted fabric that would mostly eliminate the need for fussy cutting and I've always really liked the unusual colours in this particular collection. I'll add in a few low volumes and anything else that catches my eye from my stash. In the meantime I'm going to make some of the smaller hexagons so I can use some of the card templates I already have until the rest of the paper pieces turn up.Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11965380130730880977noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5326119276545251831.post-35105302820522037552016-03-06T13:33:00.000+13:002016-03-06T13:33:26.333+13:00Ginger Crush {A finished quilt top}I finally finished sewing together all the parts of my version of Ginger Crush, a BOM by Emma (Treehouse Textiles) and Cathy (Cabbage Quilts).<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The depth of colour is hard to capture with the camera, but you get the general idea here. It has lots of lovely little details and was fun to sew because of the variety of blocks. The pattern had very detailed instructions so it was a breeze to follow.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-zzujP3Nat_2T1CxQg-rp2g9lspWwmKni4vhj8P4njKpa0kgYM7KWtw8ROOGy0zWCc0CVk3LZKUiJMf43ik5Ncw4YtUJu3v2GBmopJ60liipTjdM-Nw2S2SmXa-MeiZ0-Pn78rMTlxAo/s1600/Ginger+Crush+close+up.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="412" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-zzujP3Nat_2T1CxQg-rp2g9lspWwmKni4vhj8P4njKpa0kgYM7KWtw8ROOGy0zWCc0CVk3LZKUiJMf43ik5Ncw4YtUJu3v2GBmopJ60liipTjdM-Nw2S2SmXa-MeiZ0-Pn78rMTlxAo/s640/Ginger+Crush+close+up.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Now I'm pondering quilting options. In the pictures of the original it has lots of chunky handquilting accenting the colours in places which I really like - I'm just a bit daunted because it's quite a big quilt. Plenty of time to ponder options though...Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11965380130730880977noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5326119276545251831.post-18386399550818051082016-03-01T00:30:00.000+13:002016-03-01T14:43:54.768+13:00Gypsy Wife Section 2 {Pershing tutorial}Yay, it's March 1 - that means time to start section two of Gypsy Wife.<br />
This post is dedicated to the <b>Pershing Block</b>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmmk4KyhnVQih1Iv1klChCBvAcwbP6Hf4UAkfmPpxmyydxXlZGYwD_ihLhuMMWD6Bg50BXzv6-fFveM9D0YzMoD2mbryGWV8eR7RCnoemNqsbyZZXVEj0IeCbrHezKILUKlNdqnS1pr4c/s1600/Pershing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="634" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmmk4KyhnVQih1Iv1klChCBvAcwbP6Hf4UAkfmPpxmyydxXlZGYwD_ihLhuMMWD6Bg50BXzv6-fFveM9D0YzMoD2mbryGWV8eR7RCnoemNqsbyZZXVEj0IeCbrHezKILUKlNdqnS1pr4c/s640/Pershing.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I have to be honest and say that this block is probably the most difficult one in the quilt - only because it has lots of components and you need to keep your seams very accurate. I estimate it took me about 2 hours, but there were cups of coffee and photographing included in that time, so it might not take you that long. It also looks great when its done, so it's totally worth the effort!<br />
<br />
If you are worried about your accuracy, you could try paper piecing the block. There is a pdf you can download <a href="http://627handworks.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Pershing-Block.pdf">here</a> courtesy of Julie Hirt- 627handworks.com. Just check when you print it out that the square in the centre that includes A1 and E2,3,4, 5 measures <b>3"</b> before you start sewing so that it comes out the right size.<br />
<b>EDITED</b>: I had originally written 3.5" as the center size, but I forgot that seam allowances aren't included. The correct size when measuring the centre block is<b> 3"</b><br />
<br />
A couple of tips before we crack on.<br />
I pressed all the seams open for this block. I also pressed each little component as I went. This really helps with accuracy.<br />
<br />
Work slowly and pin pin pin. Pinning can be tedious, but so is unpicking, out of the two, pinning seems the lesser of two tedious tasks to me :-)<br />
<br />
<b>Right, let's start!</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
Start with one of those little square in square blocks that you might be becoming familiar with. It should measure <b>3.5"</b> when you are done.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjySZF-THtf_s-XuWD-mhQWXRsRQ5ODE0rupbJCUiBlZTddtXvDne4PcKbMmlWMsp_ZkugEfbMg9UzdGKiUV-wJQOv-Ce96fWfgdKPLh9qOcgfxbQcdVwg6X9C6kg47Pt2618YcFIbuqU4/s1600/Pershing+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjySZF-THtf_s-XuWD-mhQWXRsRQ5ODE0rupbJCUiBlZTddtXvDne4PcKbMmlWMsp_ZkugEfbMg9UzdGKiUV-wJQOv-Ce96fWfgdKPLh9qOcgfxbQcdVwg6X9C6kg47Pt2618YcFIbuqU4/s640/Pershing+1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Follow the cutting instructions for the next set of corners. When you sew these on, make sure they are centred by finding the mid-point of the edge and lining it up with the point made by the centre square. I have stuck a pin in here so you can see what I mean. I usually just fold the piece in half and finger press, but I have marked the fabric with a pen so you can see it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUS5zHSE3N1cyyl_iaqawh8KUkKC8cW9PbW5f7CHGsls3H9b7ptw-5BkNdxFtUo1MvYi0gbgnf-V24hp2wsWj0ILxM1pE7HxzNxSVIGGrntTTgoeIJ72eBHsVC7jFkw5aOVzl23zkMgMc/s1600/Pershing+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUS5zHSE3N1cyyl_iaqawh8KUkKC8cW9PbW5f7CHGsls3H9b7ptw-5BkNdxFtUo1MvYi0gbgnf-V24hp2wsWj0ILxM1pE7HxzNxSVIGGrntTTgoeIJ72eBHsVC7jFkw5aOVzl23zkMgMc/s640/Pershing+2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once I have lined up the centres I flip the pieces over and sew from the side you can see below. That way, I can keep an eye on that point in the centre.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEOdn6tjhCCzfujGoL1OC3kWIMB8k9OnUlF5dyGRLqyaB2TPYO4xhtmAMBelCWxAXQ18-sMfXDgGK-FtGCsUXBj1iMgkg9lh1aVmB1t5xNtcGrIwMlAyVFfz4b8wiZraQZ1gT1pw2n-UY/s1600/Pershing+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEOdn6tjhCCzfujGoL1OC3kWIMB8k9OnUlF5dyGRLqyaB2TPYO4xhtmAMBelCWxAXQ18-sMfXDgGK-FtGCsUXBj1iMgkg9lh1aVmB1t5xNtcGrIwMlAyVFfz4b8wiZraQZ1gT1pw2n-UY/s640/Pershing+3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After you have added the four corner blocks, the whole block should measure<b> 4.75"</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now you will follow exactly the same process for the next round. When you have put these corners on, the block will measure <b>6.5"</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDaaqHTQZs00FFDDQHsYnjjeeUCO67XoKzuW8g7N9i6aW18zgFGNIY9rR81Ghq9yq4j0NKXTufSOxTpgLrrMQ8TQI9hjbs2c_UJRmvcrYEUhJS3EWyHp5O1esnebnuqcuSH3BJ4qZ_xU4/s1600/Pershing+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDaaqHTQZs00FFDDQHsYnjjeeUCO67XoKzuW8g7N9i6aW18zgFGNIY9rR81Ghq9yq4j0NKXTufSOxTpgLrrMQ8TQI9hjbs2c_UJRmvcrYEUhJS3EWyHp5O1esnebnuqcuSH3BJ4qZ_xU4/s640/Pershing+5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now you are ready to make the little units that go along the edges. The trick to remember here is that you are always sewing one of the shorter edges. It is easy to get them muddled up. Also, you are working with bias edges so handle them gently.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In the picture below I have flipped that floral piece in the centre over to the left. You need to offset it at the bottom 1/4". You can just eyeball the quarter inch, but if you know your eye isn't completely reliable, measure it with your ruler and mark it. I have made a mark where my pin is pointing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Press the seams open and lay it in front of you right side up. This time you want to make sure the offset is at the top edge where the pin is pointing.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In the picture below I have trimmed the top one. It should measure 2" in width. (the width of the coloured triangle plus seam allowance).</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When you have attached these units, they should measure <b>2.5"</b> from the seam line.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Almost there! Now it is just a matter of attaching the corner triangles using the same method you have used throughout. <b>The block will now measure 9.5". </b></div>

I hope those of you who are sewing along with Hydeeann and I have enjoyed making section one. Here is my first version:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxbEtc5yin9xS-i8SCXkv5DwQXjxFdijY_qOwg-liZtTgywiL7Qj9CC-MCnZS2Vl8x5pZ5LzjwevgQTuK-g1kjjzg5nxVRi1H91nD7g1YjsdLfkZFykuAapzG5BPgteYUDNEl9nBVXmAc/s1600/Gypsy+wife+section+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="438" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxbEtc5yin9xS-i8SCXkv5DwQXjxFdijY_qOwg-liZtTgywiL7Qj9CC-MCnZS2Vl8x5pZ5LzjwevgQTuK-g1kjjzg5nxVRi1H91nD7g1YjsdLfkZFykuAapzG5BPgteYUDNEl9nBVXmAc/s640/Gypsy+wife+section+1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had it up on the wall for a few days and I started to think it was looking a bit too blue/grey, so I swapped out a couple of the strips.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's such a small portion of the quilt, I probably didn't need to fuss, but that, apparently is my forte!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hydeeann has set up a link party over on her blog - see the instructions below. See you on March 1 :-)</div>

Today I have for you the<b> partial seam edition.</b>..<br />
<br />
There is a partial seam in section one, and if you haven't done a partial seam before that might sound daunting. But trust me, there is no tricky technical sewing here, just a particular order in which to sew your seams that might not be immediately apparent.<br />
<br />
I took lots of photos as a sewed this part together so you can follow along if you need to.<br />
I am only working on part of section 1 here (5 strips in from the left inclusive). I began by laying out the pieces using the pattern diagram as a guide.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSyLANX2Be4KgdhDo5dQpd4OkLZ6TkcDULO1TmCwTexAmVUnx0p2jq_D08h3V5zn7LC-P9so0d12e61ZX1gLHYgS4fPfHzFaDJM85ZU42h3URuCLQJYOa9Dlt-tt31G7uKMZ2a-SqquUU/s1600/Section+1+GW.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSyLANX2Be4KgdhDo5dQpd4OkLZ6TkcDULO1TmCwTexAmVUnx0p2jq_D08h3V5zn7LC-P9so0d12e61ZX1gLHYgS4fPfHzFaDJM85ZU42h3URuCLQJYOa9Dlt-tt31G7uKMZ2a-SqquUU/s640/Section+1+GW.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then I stitched the pieces together that I could see went together logically enough. Now you are ready to sew your partial seam joining the long and short strips together to where I have my finger. You are going to sew this seam down from the top about 1.5" (not all the way to the bottom, hence the 'partial seam').</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy5aPkI5yP0mY20EDTL_ms6qYextH6yeCTrNwIqcSijQ1iUmf46Nzu_98dlgQ_Vssgtf21_zWQU9Nc8CrfEmcH6sWMkEMgcIyd1VX1-sF9LLqowUcZ8qea-IhS2T8RGeQw8wXCqwGo18I/s1600/IMG_0627.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy5aPkI5yP0mY20EDTL_ms6qYextH6yeCTrNwIqcSijQ1iUmf46Nzu_98dlgQ_Vssgtf21_zWQU9Nc8CrfEmcH6sWMkEMgcIyd1VX1-sF9LLqowUcZ8qea-IhS2T8RGeQw8wXCqwGo18I/s640/IMG_0627.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I pinned the strips where I wanted to stop. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When you turn it the right way up, it looks like this and you are ready to sew it to the square in square block above.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<h2>
It's happening!! The great Gypsy Wife adventure begins today!!</h2>
<a href="http://hydeeannsews.blogspot.co.nz/p/gypsy-wife-2016.html">Hydeeann</a> and I have decided to keep all the technical details over on her blog so that you don't have to work between two blogs trying to figure out what is where. At the beginning of each month we will both write a post about the section we will be working on for each month, and we will take turns at posting some little tutorials for the more complex blocks. Remember that Hydeeann is in the US, so is essentially a day behind some of us. Don't be getting impatient and thinking she has forgotten to post if you are fortunate enough to be antipodean :-)<br />
<br />
Section 1 is a nice easy section to begin. You should find it easy enough to complete the section within a month, but don't worry if you can't. Work at your own pace so that you enjoy the process.<br />
<br />
My<b> number #1 tip</b> for this quilt is to take the time to work out what is an accurate 1/4" seam using your machine. There are lots of little pieces in this pattern and you want them to go together without tearing your hair out along the way!<br />
<br />
My <b>second major tip</b> which is related to the first, is to make the iron your best friend. I love pressing so I press a lot as I sew anyway but if this is not your usual practice, try to press regularly as you make the parts of this quilt. It will help with accuracy and mean you end up with a nice flat quilt top.<br />
<br />
<b>Tip #3</b> is don't worry too much about the colours/fabrics in each individual block. Try to get a bit of a balance of colours in each section, but remember that there are a LOT of blocks and once they are all together they will play with one another joyfully I promise.<br />
<br />
<b>Square in square blocks</b><br />
There are a lot of these is this quilt. They are fun and pretty quick to make. Because they often connect sets of strips you want them to be accurate. I took some photos of the square in square block I posted at the top as I was making it.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The instructions are in the booklet on p.22. This will be a 4" finished/4.5" unfinished block.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZrvEZFYe7vzCFs4P0uJ3xqiL1rXy2W3X7qucMvjwctcrUhYWaBFv4OB1flOJA4ocRDk8iLZlN-YVBbK-nSWLCxe6PWXd14bY84x9he4yBpkiio-Kpi_CLSK35zmtXrvTqaBi673cFcEs/s1600/IMG_0555.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZrvEZFYe7vzCFs4P0uJ3xqiL1rXy2W3X7qucMvjwctcrUhYWaBFv4OB1flOJA4ocRDk8iLZlN-YVBbK-nSWLCxe6PWXd14bY84x9he4yBpkiio-Kpi_CLSK35zmtXrvTqaBi673cFcEs/s640/IMG_0555.JPG" width="478" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Take the time to draw those lines on the corner squares, line the squares up with the edges of the centre square, and do your best to sew exactly on the line.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8y11uJefO_tz1LmKRVSH6_KQF7TtorD2eQjG1_O93W_b8F3quDGrkJKiRDNzOsZ77dkjiE2YKZH6z9VGp1VMOmcWmCWkfnlbcoINKqQ_SqZXaOVAqCipxgLqsX4scIIMyW6gLGtcVELQ/s1600/IMG_0556.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8y11uJefO_tz1LmKRVSH6_KQF7TtorD2eQjG1_O93W_b8F3quDGrkJKiRDNzOsZ77dkjiE2YKZH6z9VGp1VMOmcWmCWkfnlbcoINKqQ_SqZXaOVAqCipxgLqsX4scIIMyW6gLGtcVELQ/s640/IMG_0556.JPG" width="478" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Trim as per the instructions, then I suggest pressing the seams open, this is especially helpful for the smaller sq in sq blocks.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOxVfSI-Owclaibb7Jz1zjpV5XoeiMjNTpNmUw_6g3BsHqb3b6QhtTthTYK70kilHdftWixLgEqlFgPDGiQyJq-X07ROE60u_d3CNssRb72xns9qSwwcU54SfP72thRmiM3SPp4vwy9cw/s1600/IMG_0557.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOxVfSI-Owclaibb7Jz1zjpV5XoeiMjNTpNmUw_6g3BsHqb3b6QhtTthTYK70kilHdftWixLgEqlFgPDGiQyJq-X07ROE60u_d3CNssRb72xns9qSwwcU54SfP72thRmiM3SPp4vwy9cw/s640/IMG_0557.JPG" width="478" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Repeat the process with the opposite corners.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJwZpOLOHxAlKUCIHyw0jm9kJXGc-xfgrVpEaWsSAX2ecHrQJUywt2lqva3eVCxwnix5A3N4A8bdtIBxO52S4XXpcyF1hRngjLI6vjXcV-VIba-ZqH5BBdgf3dSnOt80mZAkGaR6Lru3g/s1600/IMG_0558.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJwZpOLOHxAlKUCIHyw0jm9kJXGc-xfgrVpEaWsSAX2ecHrQJUywt2lqva3eVCxwnix5A3N4A8bdtIBxO52S4XXpcyF1hRngjLI6vjXcV-VIba-ZqH5BBdgf3dSnOt80mZAkGaR6Lru3g/s640/IMG_0558.JPG" width="478" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You can see that my finished block is just running off slightly in one corner. I'm not too worried about it, it might just need another press.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Happy sewing everyone :-)</div>

What happened when I pondered making another Gypsy Wife aloud on a previous blog post? Um, I'm not too sure exactly... but fast forward a few days and now it appears that I have agreed to co-host a Gypsy Wife quilt-along with my exuberant friend <a href="http://hydeeannsews.blogspot.co.nz/2016/01/why-you-want-to-gypsy-along-in-2016.html">Hydeeann</a> :-)<br />
<br />
Actually, I'm really pleased that Hydeeann coaxed me into committing to Gypsy Wife #2. When I look at the photo of version 1, I still love its scrappiness and I want to see it made in colours/fabrics I also love.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS9pn7XkqIqKiYcRGr3ZNsFF02ki2zhDcFHEXOOnx41QoDde1s3X-OSZHZHa-3pGLzV6tW3IS6Sshlx9WdP_Tk77Hao1-VeDeqJSfXx-HeutiCkdnFIwb7iBdseimXy-KPMGfgsnSOSN8/s1600/Gypsy+Wife+finished.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="462" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS9pn7XkqIqKiYcRGr3ZNsFF02ki2zhDcFHEXOOnx41QoDde1s3X-OSZHZHa-3pGLzV6tW3IS6Sshlx9WdP_Tk77Hao1-VeDeqJSfXx-HeutiCkdnFIwb7iBdseimXy-KPMGfgsnSOSN8/s640/Gypsy+Wife+finished.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hydeeann has posted an initial outline of our epic #GypsyWifeQuiltAlong2016 adventure and there will be more details to follow. In this post I'm going to show you my fabric selection for version 2 and say a little about what I have chosen and why.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I started with a trip to my not-so-local quilt store All Things Patchwork, and bought a small selection of 20cm WOF cuts. I looked for a few fabrics that I really liked that could lead the way. Why WOF cuts? See all those long strips in the photo above? That's why. You can use FQs but I look for any short cuts I can find :-)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7CkbmIu49TrEPYIPoIeWY5coz47wKiflJhgAVl2PEwEAuQUzdu8030M7XNEPPUF7KU_K0VaKmf_LV7ZkFNobTdNMz6JusgJS5KjEG_GNRZl9i8wF6WBkwAj4DVHf3ylmrzdMhRZvwXnk/s1600/Initial+fabrics.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7CkbmIu49TrEPYIPoIeWY5coz47wKiflJhgAVl2PEwEAuQUzdu8030M7XNEPPUF7KU_K0VaKmf_LV7ZkFNobTdNMz6JusgJS5KjEG_GNRZl9i8wF6WBkwAj4DVHf3ylmrzdMhRZvwXnk/s640/Initial+fabrics.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
You can see that I also chose a few greys. I think this pattern works well with a nice supporting cast of low volume fabrics. When I got home, I raided my stash.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAXKU03pQlEc7c4SPsNbfX-AhTHqY71qDyP7pOY8hrPYHLjB-QJYkohbzx-BpaGqaoFT7zuJx21ArbW7MDmPQwoltnl1E8APOtsCQR2y2hcfSxUj-rhr0HGipr86lIKsBOTlqjZOe8hXA/s1600/Extended+fabric+pull.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="542" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAXKU03pQlEc7c4SPsNbfX-AhTHqY71qDyP7pOY8hrPYHLjB-QJYkohbzx-BpaGqaoFT7zuJx21ArbW7MDmPQwoltnl1E8APOtsCQR2y2hcfSxUj-rhr0HGipr86lIKsBOTlqjZOe8hXA/s640/Extended+fabric+pull.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In making this pile of fabric I was aiming to include some specifics. I've rearranged the fabric so you can see what I am talking about.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkDJtSgX24c_Em8gBMrdfw8YeoZCd8MvMzhivfkahFhCXzSnrAUgsThlSgbhWcQOrj1wcous4soTEePqROfarmMx5cFBKHIw-MqY5XarstQmE2I3h9lgh_Mc9MJJLyH95h5R0CuJbVj7M/s1600/Fabrics+grouped.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkDJtSgX24c_Em8gBMrdfw8YeoZCd8MvMzhivfkahFhCXzSnrAUgsThlSgbhWcQOrj1wcous4soTEePqROfarmMx5cFBKHIw-MqY5XarstQmE2I3h9lgh_Mc9MJJLyH95h5R0CuJbVj7M/s640/Fabrics+grouped.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Starting with the lower right - my large scale, multi-coloured fabrics, some of which provided the original colour direction. I'm hoping these will give the quilt its "gypsy" flavour. Directly above them are some smaller scale fabrics. A lot of the pieces in this quilt are very small, so a good number of small scale fabrics are useful. Bottom left I have included some fabrics that read quite close to solids. I may include some actual solids. I like the look of the few solids sprinkled in among the prints in version one so we'll just see how it goes. Top left are a few extra greys including a nice dark one.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVwbixbfB9rY6ax4Z06AKmHi2-tq4bxxirHEhoaRGx2ceB2TAwyu3eKSom8hyphenhyphenK48D7CNGynUv5yWF_pVsX9MYqUhFSg9_NANUxLRdrxc_bfmDa2SU8-G_D7HBQqiBWfGXdf6FAeyDdqpA/s1600/Punch+fabrics.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVwbixbfB9rY6ax4Z06AKmHi2-tq4bxxirHEhoaRGx2ceB2TAwyu3eKSom8hyphenhyphenK48D7CNGynUv5yWF_pVsX9MYqUhFSg9_NANUxLRdrxc_bfmDa2SU8-G_D7HBQqiBWfGXdf6FAeyDdqpA/s640/Punch+fabrics.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally I have started gathering a small pile of 'maybe' fabric which I will use for little pops of punch if needed. I don't want my quilt to get too samey samey if you know what I mean (its a technical term). I won't know about these until progress is underway. They are pretty small scraps, but because I will only use them in moderation, they are perfect for the job.</div>
<br />
Overall, I think the trick to this quilt (if you like the look of the original) is to make sure you have a nice balance of light and dark fabrics. Having said that, there are some other quite different takes on this pattern which also work really well. I'm looking forward to starting this adventure again with Hydeeann and cheering on our team mates!Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11965380130730880977noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5326119276545251831.post-65515779158716915162016-01-12T19:47:00.002+13:002016-01-12T19:47:38.380+13:00Round robin round up!Yesterday we had our first Monday Modern meeting of the year and those of us who had participated in the round robin received our completed minis back from the person who had done the quilting and binding.<br />
<br />
I had Louise's quilt for the final round. I am not a confident quilter so I aimed for 'tidy' rather than anything more ambitious. Louise's was one of the larger minis at approximately 34" square, so quite a nice size for a baby quilt or pram quilt. With this in mind, I thought I would avoid quilting it so that it became stiff as a board. Basically I did some simple echo quilting, then found a binding fabric that I was particularly pleased with.<br />

My centre block was worked on by Robyn then Mel and quilted by Carolyn. I'm so thrilled with it - I can't stop looking at it! A huge thank you to <a href="http://chickyquilts.blogspot.co.nz/">Laurina</a> who organised the round robin and kept us on track :-)<br />

I hope 2016 brings you happiness and plenty of crafting time!<br />
I'm beginning 2016 by pondering my quilting 'style'. Occasionally I post pictures on IG of projects I am working on, and occasionally <a href="http://littleislandquilting.blogspot.co.nz/">Alison</a> comments that she thinks the project 'isn't me'. I don't mind in the slightest, I would be the first to say that my style is somewhat eclectic. As my friends at Monday Modern would attest, I am also prone to saying I don't really like many quilts I have made. I would go so far as to say that I often sound like Goldilocks. "This one is too fussy... this one is too plain... this one isn't scrappy enough... this one is too scrappy..." I'm waiting for the day when I can say with excitement "this one is JUST RIGHT".<br />
<br />
I made some collages of quilts that I do <i>quite</i> like as a way of thinking about what I have been making over the last couple of years. First up, the graphic series:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieIjUpfpnrTMmGwKwRGajEKlwCUnclDReTSomcpcBnA_9Kviee9fKmyRZAXaPhWn5HDaUDFVCbqHtVnBU8TDKRg7uswL3yfoPPNq5LOq7WWAum1vsZhyphenhyphen817eUGvebeevvNQUwFq3sPpz4/s1600/My+style_graphic.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieIjUpfpnrTMmGwKwRGajEKlwCUnclDReTSomcpcBnA_9Kviee9fKmyRZAXaPhWn5HDaUDFVCbqHtVnBU8TDKRg7uswL3yfoPPNq5LOq7WWAum1vsZhyphenhyphen817eUGvebeevvNQUwFq3sPpz4/s640/My+style_graphic.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The top two are my favourites in this bunch. When I look at the four together I remember how much I like graphic lines/shapes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But I also like a more scrappy look...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG_DdRermoA1E27-2yO7tGJeeI-l5ZPu6ish0Rw4-IFSi7EBZMZNKAcl8khyphenhyphenANDth33TddUlcNtAEttHpspC_DFLCepk3S3-mxj5R3x7rZ4kgO4jdEp_8PkaX91sKTD9_5iryqNg43luU/s1600/Mystyle_scrappy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG_DdRermoA1E27-2yO7tGJeeI-l5ZPu6ish0Rw4-IFSi7EBZMZNKAcl8khyphenhyphenANDth33TddUlcNtAEttHpspC_DFLCepk3S3-mxj5R3x7rZ4kgO4jdEp_8PkaX91sKTD9_5iryqNg43luU/s640/Mystyle_scrappy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Again, top right is probably my favourite in this bunch (I have since given it away for a school raffle).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The two unfinished projects below are again on the scrappy continuum. The one on the left may end up being a little too quiet, while Gypsy Wife on the right is too <i>something</i>. I think the something has to do with the colour palette. When I look at this picture I am tempted to make it again, but use colours that are more 'me'. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF6NwrVR_mSot5JbkueX1FIMtFj3wewB6YkjrnXTLsbq03bb5p2rMMQg4Xo_2I53D6doWLdyx9ArSBurnkCjbyN5zx6vMFV1hBh6j7VY1jIkqh9LL0-1m4P_tulW-ZD-XU5RIDAShWydg/s1600/My+style_comparing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF6NwrVR_mSot5JbkueX1FIMtFj3wewB6YkjrnXTLsbq03bb5p2rMMQg4Xo_2I53D6doWLdyx9ArSBurnkCjbyN5zx6vMFV1hBh6j7VY1jIkqh9LL0-1m4P_tulW-ZD-XU5RIDAShWydg/s640/My+style_comparing.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And the latest project that isn't 'me' in the eyes of my friend and quilty hero Alison?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmdkr1CmKRNTC3YGZ6jNEDJVcdAdncvgx-RydTpG_byGUi3SgX_OD6oUnahvNWzA43bS4otvWtc-LZ_Rra0JHo2IVwyS0lIS1406KtFMNwLf5ykiyguP7TjUVl3FFyV4-J1p1zfMMzpm0/s1600/Liberty+WIP.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="522" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmdkr1CmKRNTC3YGZ6jNEDJVcdAdncvgx-RydTpG_byGUi3SgX_OD6oUnahvNWzA43bS4otvWtc-LZ_Rra0JHo2IVwyS0lIS1406KtFMNwLf5ykiyguP7TjUVl3FFyV4-J1p1zfMMzpm0/s640/Liberty+WIP.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A Liberty quilt using the pattern On a Whim by Camille Roskelly. I can see my enthusiasm for graphic shapes in evidence here. Goldilocks has already started compiling her reservations about this one, but as she always enjoys the process, if not the final product, there is no cause for concern!</div>

I made a little needlebook as my secret santa gift for Monday Modern.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Originally I planned to give the Christmas tree ornament below, but I had a lot of trouble with the piping. It looks ok in the photo, but doesn't stand up to much scrutiny in real life. So its on my own tree now.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And finally, I finished my nephew's book cushion. The book is wrapped and in situ :-)</div>
