Helen (who used to have the Little Craft Store in Pt Chevalier) wanted some help using up the last of her fabric so she has challenged our group members to make charity quilts which will be donated to needy children in South Auckland. She brought two boxes of fat quarters to our last meeting and told us to pick what we needed. Talk about feeling like a child in a candy store! I was instantly drawn to select from my favourite colour palette. Aah, my pretties...
The only problem is that I wasn't really thinking 'child's quilt' and now that I have the fabric on my sewing table I feel a bit short on inspiration. Any ideas my quilty friends? I have to be able to complete it before Christmas so no suggestions that involve 1000 hours of paper piecing. Or stitching in the ditch for that matter :-)
Oh how exciting! Ummmm patchwork with the colours with wonky stars in the light dot? Or scrappy trip around the world (so fun - could you add a really zingy solid?). Or log cabins with a bright centre? Or one of those cool flags quilts - have a look at a cuppa and a catch up. - she's doing a flag quilt along at the moment. Oh oh oh I'm excited for you.

ReplyDeleteThey might not be typical choices for a child's quilt, but I'm positive there would be some older children/teens who would adore these! They are gorgeous colours!
Hi Megan, I was wondering if you took out the two most obvious florals to the left of the pic, and added in a strong solid - maybe grey, green or blue - if you could do something for a teenage boy. I'm guessing that they may not get many quilts made for them, and I'm sure you could do something lovely that would suit. Something simple and striking like big half square triangles, maybe, not too fussy. It's a fun challenge whatever you end up doing!

ReplyDeleteI spent waaaaay too much time looking for patterns for my fabrics on Tuesday. I have settled on an Oh Franssom design, but my second choice was Cluck Cluck Sew's simple whack and stack block tutorial, which could give you a clean, graphic quilt with those fabrics (and allow for simple cross-hatch straight line quilting too!).
