The art of procrastination

So what do you do when you have a pile of marking and tight deadlines to work to? Procrastination activity of course! Late yesterday afternoon I decided that I just had to finish my Aerial mini-quilt so I stayed up late last night sewing the final few blocks.

That turned out to be a less than successful strategy for a couple of reasons, the main one being poor light and poor concentration meant my blocks wouldn't play together the way I wanted them to in the cool light of morning.

Yep, not only is that block in lower left corner sewn the wrong way hence interrupting my diamond, which I was initially quite partial to in the beginning, the whole thing seemed a bit busy.

Cue lots of auditioning (I'll spare you the eleventy million options I tried), and the eventual decision to make another larger block. That is, in fact, what the pattern suggests but I was paddling off in my own direction fairly early on ;-)

Much humming and haaaahing over my coffee this morning...

If you're bored with my indecision by now, check out those slippers - best slippers ever! I finally did make some decisions (this quilt seemed to give me quite a mental work out) and got the border on. But have I started my marking yet??

A little more Gypsy Wife progress

I have been diligently following the Gypsy Wife QAL schedule, but the other day I started to feel a bit overwhelmed by my small mountain of mis-matched blocks. I decided that from here on in I need to sew the quilt in sections so that I don't unintentionally end up with a whole lot of same coloured blocks in one place.

It turned out to be a good decision - when I put section 1 together I had to make an extra pinwheel because none of the pinwheels I had seemed to work. As it is, its looking pretty crazy but I'm going to stick with it - we all need a bit of crazy right??

AMH {a finished quilt}

Winter made a stormy entrance earlier this week so I am feeling very pleased that I have a super-snuggly new quilt for winter evenings. I love the rich colours of Anna Maria Horner fabrics and the glorious chaos that happens when you put them all together. This one makes me think of red wine and an open fire place.

I wanted to keep it all AMH, so I chose one of her 'plainer' fabrics for the back. It was quilted in an all over pattern by Carol Fearon and I used a wool batting for the first time. I really like the wool, it seems to make it a bit puffier which, for this type of quilt, seems just the ticket!

Penny Patch {A finished quilt}

Here is my Penny Patch, finally finished! I'm pretty motivated for about 2/3 of the quilting journey then typically I tend to run out of steam. To help shrink my pile of unquilted tops, a couple went to longarmer Carol Fearon. I love what she did with Penny Patch. Lots of pics to follow because I took this quilt to work to photograph it, hoping like crazy no one I knew would see me, so we might as well enjoy the fruits of my afternoon, right?
